GANT is founded in 1949 by Bernard Gantmacher and his sons Marty and Elliot. The story of the brand goes back way before 1949. As a Ukrainian boy found his way to the United States. After working for a while, he developed his entrepreneurial zeal and he learned tailoring. During this time he met Rebecca Rose, a sewer, who later became his wife. With the First World War, he joined the army and went to France. Later he went back to what he liked to do and opened his first business: Par-Ex Shirt Company in Brooklyn.
