The company was born from Sainsbury’s and GB-inno-BM, with Gurth Hoyar-Millar as CEO. Its first branch was in Croydon, with several other locations opening throughout the 80s. In the 90s, Sainsbury’s purchased Texas Homecare and rebranded its stores to Homebase. The company went through more changes when Shroder Ventures and, later Gus, bought it in the 2000s. At some point, Homebase was part of Home Retail Group, which allowed it to offer attractive concessions. This approach contributed to its growth as a home improvement company. Towards the end of the millennium, Homebase rebranded some of its stores to Bunnings Warehouse when Westfarmers bought it.
