After 4-6 weeks were informed the hire company were not operating and a full refund would be sent within a few day. That didn’t happen so made contact via online chat and refund would be resolved and an email would be received to confirm. Still not correspondence or refund. The title is stress free – who’s kidding who?

Booked a car through them in Dec 2023, pick up from Milan. When i arrived, the incredibly RUDE employee of AUTO ONE – SURPRISE CARS (apparently the provider they use), did not recognise the insurance i paid to Stress Free and pushed me to buy his insurance jacking up the price multiple times. From 243 euros total i ended up paying 660 euros!!!!!!! Rude eployee played also the ”your-card-is-not-working” card when i said i want the price i booked the car for and I already paid full Insurance, only to go ahead and charge finally they very same card for his insurance and rate!!!! SCAMMERS OF THE WORST KIND. AVOID, AVOID AVOID

For a 72$ car rental I had been charged 1577$ n my credit card.
On Oct 2nd 2023 we arrived late in Bucharest, at around 7.30 pm, after approximately 12-15h of travel from Toronto. The first male person met us at the airport, he indicated that he represented the car rental company and that the office was near by and not at the airport as stated by the contract. He drove us 7-10 min away from the airport in an industrial park. It was already dark and nighttime. At their so-called office (with no name on the door, an empty room aside a desk) a 2nd male presented us some rental papers which were mostly in Romanian, in a confusing mix of the two languages. They explained briefly our car was waiting for us downstairs, and he pointed with his finger where to sign. We never saw that car or any other car for rent at that place. He asked us to pay the 5.321.09 RON (1577,89 CAD) amount for the car and an insurance until they can verify our car insurance coverage on the credit card. He told us this amount would be reimbursed once we sent at the main office a copy of our credit card and insurance coverage included with the credit card. They reassured us all was good, explained that this was their Romanian process and if any issue we will be 100% refunded and not to worry. They told us also not to forget to bring them the receipt from a Romanian bridge Fetesti, if we went there (we did not known what he was talking about). We declined to give him the private details of our credit card and reiterated we did have car insurance. We suspected already a possible fraud because of the suspicious insistance and hurry. The second male further asked us to log online on a weird website (that he presented on his own iPad), to purchase an International driver licence and to enter our credit card datas there at which point we suspected them for real manipulation and fraud and asked for a full reimbursement on the spot. The second male indicated that he cannot reimburse us with the credit card terminal they just used and that we need to contact the email on the papers (office@teamcars.ro and our mastercard credit card). He insisted he cannot reimburse us but head office (the email address, will reimburse us the total cost). So we took our luggage and left. There was an ackward and scary moment for my wife when the 1st male drove us back to the airport and my wife told me after she was afraid the male would leave us on the open field around the airport at night and could have assaulted us in the dark.
I am certain this car dealer is a fraud and he should be banned for everybody’s wellness and protection. We found the next day another car dealer and had no issues, it was a similar process like in Canada.

No way to cancel AND don’t allow for a refund. This is by no means how honest transactions are made.

– Paid for ‘meet and greet’ service expecting someone to be at the airport. Nobody was waiting, there was a shuttle service phone number that had to be called.
– It took more than 20 phone calls to locate the shuttle driver who kept hanging up and didn’t speak any English.
– The shuttle didn’t have child seats, so we couldn’t all travel in the vehicle. Wife and 2 toddlers had to wait at the airport terminal for 90 minutes before I was able to pick them up.
– Paid extra for a larger vehicle class, the only car available had half the boot space, not large enough for our luggage.
– Staff were rude and couldn’t communicate in English.
– Hire car was dirty inside and out and it smelled of stale beer.
– And the cherry on the cake, the car was supplied with 1/3rd in the fuel tank – costing an extra €50.
All in, this was my worst experience hiring a car ever.

My confirmation came through from stressfreecarrental, it stated that if my UK driving licence did not have a photo I would need an international driving permit.
I purchased and took permit, licence and licence check code.
On arrival at Goldcar desk they refused to release the car to me ,because they would only accept a photo car driving licence, stressfree never made me aware of this at any point.
I contacted stressfree by email because they do not have a telephone number.
They told me to refer goldcar to their terms and conditions, made no difference.
Then stressfree suggested hiring a car from another supplier, when I asked if I would get a refund for what had already been paid ,they would not guarantee this.
Wasted 2 hours at the airport trying to sort this out.
Only way I could get the car was to add an additional driver at extra cost.
Since I have returned I have complained to stressfree , they said they will look into it.
It is now 2 months since I complained nothing from stressfree.
Do not use stressfree to book and also do not use goldcar because they offer no help either
